Default Problem using MSN Messenger with Putty

Hi all,
I just started using Putty yesterday, and I'm using ssh tunnelling. I have only one problem, and that is that MSN Messenger won't log in. Having gone through the troubleshooter, it seems that I do not have the right key ports open. I've tried using the port forwarding in the Putty configuration (SSH>>Tunnels), and my friends don't quite understand why it isn't working. I have port 8080 open, which is the port my host uses, and my friend says that is all I should really need.
Does anyone know how I should configure Putty so I can get MSN Messenger working?
Thanks

Hi there

Putty normally works straight out of the box and doesn't intefere with messenger or anything like that. I have a couple of linux boxes I look after else where (personal set ups so I don't pay for them, cos if I was paying of course I'd come to EIS! teehee ) and I don't have any issues with MSN Messenger.

The only thing I can think of is if you are using a proxy server on your network or something and that is intefering somewhere along the way in terms of sharing settings.

Which version of putty are you using? Just wondering if it's a bug in a new version or something. I currently use v0.55.

Hm.. I'm using v0.58
The strange thing is, it works with the Gaim messaging client, but not for trillian or msn.
I do believe that msn requires both UDP AND TCP ports open, and after emailing the Putty developer, he said that if msn needs UDP ports, then it won't work.. Although that does contradict what you said.
I'm using windows, not linux..
Perhaps I should try the older version. Perhaps you can point me towards a download of v0.55 ?

Hi

I've just sent version 0.55 via www.mailbigfile.com so you should get a link.

Let me know if that works ok. Just to confirm, I'm using Windows XP myself, I just have a couple of Linux boxes I use Putty to conect to.
